JM Paterno M.D.
Josemaria “JM” Paterno, MD, is double board certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology. Dr. Paterno completed his residency training in Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital after which he completed an Interventional Pain Management fellowship also at the Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, recently recognized by the American Academy of Pain Medicine as one of the top pain management fellowships in the country. He received his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, With Honors, and With Distinction, and his Doctor of Medicine degree also from Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Paterno has authored publications in clinical research and the basic sciences related to spinal fixation biomechanics as well as prolonged inflammatory responses in tissue injury. He has also authored major textbook chapters on radiofrequency nerve ablation, facial pain, pain generators of the spine and spinal imaging, and implantable pain therapies.
During his training in Boston, Dr. Paterno gained extensive experience treating all forms of chronic pain using the latest advances in comprehensive pain management. He has a special interest in Headache and Facial pain, Implantable Neuromodulation Pain Therapies, Chronic Pelvic Pain, Cancer Related Pain, and Sports Injury/Musculoskeletal pain.
