Pain management, also called pain medicine, is a type of specialized medical care designed to minimize the impact of surgical pain or chronic pain.  Chronic pain, in particular, can be difficult to control and sometimes impossible to cure.  Pain management treatments can significantly reduce pain and help patients enjoy a better quality of life.

The spinal column is the body's main support structure.  Its 33 bones called vertibrae are divided into 5 regions; cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal.

A celiac plexus block is an injection of local anesthetic into or around the celiac plexus of nerves that surrounds the aorta, the main artery in the abdomen.

This injection relieves pain in the neck, shoulders, and arms caused by a pinched nerve or nerves in the cervical spine.  Various conditions can compress nerves causing pain.  The medication injected helps relieve the swelling of nerves.

This minimally invasive procedure also called Radiofrequency or RF Rhizotomy reduces or eliminates the pain of damaged facet joints by disrupting the medial branch nerves that carry the pain signal.

This condition is an irritation or compression of one or more nerve roots in the cervical spine.  Because these nerves travel to the shoulders, arms, and hands, an injury in the cervical spine can cause symptoms in these areas.

This injection procedure is performed to relieve neck, shoulder, and arm pain related to compression of the nerve root in the cervical spine.  The steriod medication can reduce the swelling and inflammation due to conditions.

This condition is an inflammation of the tip of the tailbone called the Coccyx.  It causes pain and tenderness between the buttocks.  It can be caused by sitting for extended period periods, childbirth, or injury.

This condition is a weakening of one or more vertibral discs, which normally act as a cushion between the vertibrae. This condition can develop as a natural part of the aging process but it can also develop due to injury.

This minimally invasion procedure uses a small needle and probe device to reduce a herniated disc, quickly relieving pain in most patients.  This procedure may be performed on an outpatient basis.

Also called discogram is a diagnostic procedure used to determine if back pain is caused by one or more discs.  The procedure involves pressuring discs with an injection of sterile liquid to induce pain in the affected disc.  This helps the specialist plan a course of treatment.

Each vertibra in the spine is connected to the vertibra above and below it by facet joints, which are located on both sides of the rear of the spine.  A facet joint block can be both diagnostic and therapeutic for back or neck pain believed to originate from in these joints.

This condition is a deterioration of the facet joints which help stabilize the spine and limit excessive motion.

Fibromyalgia is a medical disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain and allodynia, a heightened and painful response to pressure. It is not restricted to pain, leading to the use of the alternative term fibromyalgia syndrome for the condition.

A lumbar radiofrequency neurotomy is a minimally invasive procedure that reduces or elminates the pain from damaged facet or sacroliac joints by disrupting the medical branch nerves that carry pain signals.
