Hyun Hong, M.D.
Hyun Hong, M.D., is double board certified in Pain Management and Anesthesiology. He completed an internal medicine internship at Legacy Hospitals in Portland, Oregon. He then went on to complete anesthesiology training at the University of Washington in Seattle, which was founded by John Bonica, the originator of the multidisciplinary pain concept. After practicing anesthesiology in the private sector, he returned for further training in interventional pain management at the world renowned Texas Tech Pain Institute under Gabor Racz, who created the Racz procedure.

Hyun believes in the treatment of the whole person. Besides interventional procedures and medical management, nutrition and exercise, psychological counseling, and prayer can play vital roles.

Praveen K. Mambalam, M.D.
Praveen K Mambalam, MD is board certified in Anesthesiology and is fellowship trained in pain management. Dr. Mambalam originally hails from the East Coast where he completed his B.S. at the University of Maryland, College Park and Doctor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency training in anesthesiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Now a local product of the pain management fellowship at the University of Washington. As a recent product of American Board of Anesthesiology accredited pain fellowship, he brings a fresh perspective on the latest advances in comprehensive pain management. He believes that Chronic Pain is a disease that can be conquered with a balanced multidisciplinary approach. His interests lie in advanced interventional pain procedures and medication management.
 
Yongyi Zhu M.D.
Yongyi Zhu, M.D. received his medical degree from Shanghai Medical University in China. He completed a surgery internship at Nassau County Medical Center in Long Island, New York. He then went on to complete anesthesiology residency and pain management fellowship training at University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Before joining the WA Center for Pain Management, he was an attending physician at multidisciplinary Pain Clinic at University of Washington Medical Center for years. At UW Medicine Pain Clinic, he not only provided comprehensive pain evaluation and treatment for different pain patients, but also was involved in teaching the pain management fellows who wish to specialize in the management of pain at the postgraduate level. Dr. Zhu’s primary goal of pain management is to relieve patient's pain, restore function and improve the quality of life for people suffering with chronic pain. He believes that effective pain management should be a multidisciplinary approach.
 
Jeffery Fitzthum, M.D.
Dr. Fitzthum initially trained as a chiropractor at Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon, then went on to earn his MD degree at Oregon Health Sciences University, completing a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. Following residency he remained in Madison as a faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine serving in the Pain Clinic and the Spine Clinic. Upon finishing a Masters in Public Health program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor he returned to the Pacific Northwest and entered private practice emphasizing pain management. Dr. Fitzthum believes in a multimodal approach to managing pain with the goal of improving mental and physical functioning as well as improving quality of life.
 
Philip Knowles, Ph.D. Clinical Psychology
Philip Knowles, PhD is board certified in clinical health psychology. He graduated from Western Washington State College, completed graduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno and a residency at Schick Shadel Hospital in Seattle. Dr. Knowles brings an approach to pain management that considers the whole patient and works collaboratively with the patient and their providers so that a comprehensive treatment plan can be developed.
